Gotta start somewhere…

September 19th, 2008

The Fall weather is setting in here in Vancouver. As the weather chills, I look back fondly to the warmer days of summer. However, it does give me time to do some thinking… and planning.

The Pajoka blog will be basically a way for me to keep in touch with anybody interested in the project. It should come in handy when Kiky and I hit the road and return to Indonesia next year, but until then there are surely lots and lots of things to think about.

To start with, how to get pajoka off the ground. Starting up a company that puts people and environment before profits is a bit crazy. However, I am an optimist and believe that when offered a choice, people will tend to do the right thing.

The right thing also feels a whole lot better when it is the right thing for everybody involved. What I see as Pajoka should give all those involved a place to relax and unwind, to let life slow down so that you can stop and smell the orchids. That, and of course feeling mighty good about yourself.

Pajoka will take care of both the human and natural environment around them. By becoming accepted into the local rhythm and promoting strong cultural ties, Pajoka will take care of the locals. From the onset, I want to create a company that pays fair wages to their laborers. Nature will benefit greatly too. Our properties will double as conservation land, and a percentage of each site will be left in a natural, undisturbed state. And by raising awareness, we will establish environmental stewardship in the community.

I will try to write often in this blog to let all know the progress of this project. Of course, I think such an undertaking would be impossible alone. I encourage all who are interested to support and lend ideas into the mix. Till next writing
